LUNE computes the Moon on your device. The website counts visits and keeps nothing else about you unless you write to us. This page covers moonphasetoday.live and the LUNE browser extension.

What we collect

There are no accounts and no advertising trackers on moonphasetoday.live. We count visits with Google Analytics, described below, to see which pages people read and how they find the site. The contact form is the only place where you send us anything yourself.

Like every web server, our hosting provider may keep short-lived technical logs, such as IP addresses, to keep the site secure and running. We do not use them to identify or profile anyone.

Google Analytics

Each page view is recorded by Google Analytics: the page, the page or site that sent you, your browser, device type, screen size and language, and an approximate location, country and city, worked out from your IP address. Google Analytics does not log or store the IP address itself.

It sets two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_X69NYR9R49, to tell a returning visitor from a new one. They last up to two years. Google handles this data under its own privacy policy.

To opt out, block cookies for moonphasetoday.live in your browser or install Google’s opt-out browser add-on. The Moon and every value on the page work the same without them.

How the Moon is computed

Phase, illumination, age, moonrise, moonset and every other value are calculated in your browser from the lunar ephemeris. No request is sent to work them out.

Your location

The page starts from the city that matches your device’s time zone. If you choose Use my location, your browser asks for permission and hands the coordinates to the page. They are used for the calculation on your device and are never sent to us or to anyone else.

What stays on your device

One setting: whether the Moon is shown as in your sky or north up. It is kept in your browser’s local storage, and clearing the site’s data removes it.

The fonts and the Moon texture are served from moonphasetoday.live itself. Apart from Google Analytics, no outside service sees your visit to the home page.

The LUNE browser extension

The extension has no analytics. It computes the Moon on your device and keeps its settings, such as your city, units and the toolbar badge, in the browser’s extension storage. If browser sync is turned on, your browser may copy those settings between your devices. The extension makes no network requests of its own.

The contact form

If you write to us from the contact page, the form sends what you type: your name, email address and message, plus anything optional you add. Netlify, which hosts the site, stores the submission so we can read it.

We use it only to reply, and we delete it when you ask. Send the request through the same form.

Changes

If any of this changes, this page and the date at the top will change with it.
